and find a subwoofer cabinet with old bass speakers,
ready for a reconditioning and new start?
There it was, an old car cab, probably used for bass booming,
or outdoor party bass reinforcement.
Two Pyramid Super Pro Super Blue bass woofers:
The dust caps had been apparently pushed in,
and the exposure to weather had caused the butyl rubber surrounds
to come loose.
Yet they were basically sound.
I removed the hot-glue which had been used by a previous owner
in an attempt to fix them.
Then I sanded and scraped off the metal frame,
and carefully glued down the rubber with Gorilla Glue (super glue).
The Speakers, Prior to Repair:
I got new foam gaskets as well,
and our Speaker Shop man kindly provided me with
a new set of dust-caps, which were designed to smooth higher frequencies.
The result, two solid bass woofers as good as new, perhaps better!
I installed one in a cabinet I had made from an IKEA endtable as a test:
This is a picture of speaker before installing the new dust-caps.
